shunt v11 by zeruch shunt v11 by zeruch
I was supposed to see Recoil (aka Alan Wilder, formerly of Depeche Mode; if you ever want to understand why DM kind of lost coherence sonically after he left, listen to Recoil) last week but missed the show for idiotic reasons which I will not name here.

That being said, it left me pondering Recoil (which was the working title for this until completion), and in the end settled with shunt, a track from their/his release, Unsound Methods.

Made from 4 separate layers of paint and ink on sketchbook sheets, it was much busier at the onset, and the bulk of my activity was kind of paring the noise down and muting the explosive and dark color palette into something closer to sullen. I want to do more abstract work again, but I'm fielding more minimalist ideas than the cluttered color riots of my last wave of this kind of material.

It is strange that I immediately identify this as a poster for some artistic performance, mostly to do with dance. Perhaps it's the balance and effortless symmetry.

As long as the dance isn't Lolly in a tutu doing Swan Lake... :P

it's like slowly clearing away the dust to reveal some secret mystery. I  abstract, so more please! :)

The blue feels a little, I don't know, 'conservative'. On the fence about if I like that, or not.

But on the whole it's awesome work Joseph. Even though I love 'teh chaos', I am totally looking forward to seeing where this more minimal trend leads to!

You and me both :D

That being said, not everything I do can have retina-damaging palettes. :P
