Everyone knows that bassists are an underappreciated lot. Frankly, I prefer listening to a good rhythm section tweak a beat than listen to a wankering guitar noodler anyday. However, even among bassists, upright players get no love from the legions of youth, who seem to think that if it isn't plugged into a stack of Marshalls, it is not valid. Outside of the physical power required to play one is much much higher than a BC Rich knockoff 4 string, they also have one hell of a sweet tone, whether in jazz, orchestral or even in jungle (electronica gurus like LTJ Bukem and Roni Size use them)

Which leads me to...Ben Allison, whose own work is fully acoustic, but utilizes beat constructions from various world music styles, electronica, and the avant-garde. They guy is a serious underdog, and having seen him live -- he throws down. [link]

This work itself was a bit of a quickie, and needs some work. But that will come later as thsi will probably be my last submission for a few weeks as final exams/papers come up to deadline.
