Live in Splendor Die in Chaos by zeruch Live in Splendor Die in Chaos by zeruch
This barely qualifies as mixed media, in that I normally have layers of painted gunk woven into the digital bits, but here there is only one sheet of acrylic ink and paint used as a textural medium between several layers of fractal generations.

The title derives from a song by Pop Will Eat Itself, which takes the past tense rather than the present imperfect.

This was assembled from components I had as scans or pending files since late last year.

I saw an advance screening of the film, and I owned the graphic novel adaptation since its release (its actually better than the film IMHO); I like Aronofsky's work in general and I very much enjoy the painting of Williams.. I would never have connected the two tacitly, but I can certainly see where someone else might draw such a parallel between what happens here and Mandalas given how fractals and mandalas share some visual characteristics.

cleaner than your usual work! not a good thing, or a bad thing. i am glad the background is not symmetrical.

Part of the point of the exercise was to use the backgrounds off-kilter orientation, but grounded in the repetition. If you make additional elements too cluttered (as I did initially with this) it turns into a trainwreck.

god yeah, i can see how bad it could just be. ;]

i think this is just minimal enough to work, as it has got a lot more going on than it appears to at first.

The outside crimson color, pattern, and direction looks exactly like what my eyes see when I close them sometimes.

No joke.
